Learning by example
Posted by rhican - Monday August 28 @ 23:41
Cat: ComputerToday, I present this special treat to you all. If you were annoyed by the off topicness of my previous news post, consider this a compensation. ;-)

We believe in learning by example, and firmly oppose security through obscurity. So this is a software cracking tutorial by example. I hope you enjoy it and get hooked on RE for life (I know I am).

A big thanks goes to bb!

For educational purpouses only.

cheers, rhican.

Update 13/9: Added bb's introduction

Ok, every body wanted to know "who the hell is bb".

When he appears on my radar again, I'll offer him this spot to introduce himself to all you hungry fans.

Quote:
<bb|Work> rhican has asked me to introduce myself. As rhican politely put it I am an old timer - been around for a while. Not to be confused with bb at OSIX (I'm SIOE over there). Have always been interested in RE but these days I don't have much time to dedicate to creating challenges, I'm concentrating of running the reversing section over at hacking-school.org. Though I will try and submit a nice tasty crackit challenge for you guys. Maybe I'll make it aspelling challenge - that should fox rhican ;)
<bb|Work> *a spelling (how embarassing)

Hm..
If only OllyDbg would work with wine.. Then I could even try to solve some CrackMe's :o

Btw..
"And everybody who knows me will also have guessed he's the reason why the spelling in the tutorial is of a higher standard."
-> Yeah, I was amazed :o

Anyway, very nice article, we could use some more of that ;)

Nice tut, good for starting I'd say.

I saw you greeted kwazy Webbit, he has made some really nice tuts as well. I really like the tut where you modify a program so that itself becomes a keygen. Really nice.

I paid for this software.....

rhican on 30 August 2006 00:46

nemin, you should if you use it. As explained in the tutorial many times. This is NOT to use the program illegaly, it's to teach. If you use the software you should pay it's price. No matter how easy it is.

Draakje, yes i did thank kw for those tutorials, and his other textes.
